DIY Mobile

1. Gather your supplies. You'll need wired garland, ribbon in colours of your choosing, scissors, and something to hang it up with (such as a wire hook - affiliate link).
2. Unwind the garland, and then loop it into a circle with your desired diameter. Use the entire roll of garland and on the last loop wrap the garland around the rest several times to keep it all together.
3. Cut your ribbon a little longer than your desired length. You can always trim, but growing ribbon tends to be tricky. I made my ribbon length probably twice as long as it needed to be. I used three different colours, so I cut 4 ribbon lengths of each. Do as many as you want to fill out your mobile.
4, 5, 6, and 7. Make a slip knot with the ribbon around the garland. Make a little loop with the ribbon, grab your ends through the hole encircling the garland, pull the ends through, and pull tight. Extremely simple, and you have two ends dangling down for each cut ribbon.
8. Continue with all the ribbons.
9. Tie two short lengths of ribbon onto the garland making a cross in the middle, and hang up your mobile
10. Cut off the excess ribbon ends to your desired length, making sure baby cannot reach up and grab the mobile. Use the scissors to gently curl any flat ribbons.

Voilà, you have a simple mobile to draw baby's attention. I ended up tying the ends I chopped off all together and hanging it on the wall by the changing table to make the ugly wood paneled wall a little less unappealing and also so Turtle has something to look at. It doesn't necessarily have to be a mobile for a baby, you could put one in any child's room or your own room or tie it in to seasonal decor, etc. It is quick easy and cheap - can't beat that.

*I got the idea over at My Soul is the Sky - I can't find the direct link, but she made crowns for a church youth group (I believe) and then made a mobile with the leftover materials. Inspiration!
