Classic Waffles

Taste: The best waffle recipe I've ever tried - so delicious. I made them twice this week.
Amount: Depends on the size and shape of your waffle iron. I have a Belgian waffle maker and I got three waffles.
Time: 1 hour. Keep in mind that you need to let the batter rest for 30 minutes.

  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients: the milk, buttermilk, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and whisk until just combined, the batter will have a few lumps. Set aside to rest for 30 minutes.
Preheat a waffle iron. Pour the batter in and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions, until the waffles are golden and crisp. Serve immediately with your favourite toppings. We are fans of strawberries and bananas with a little whipped cream too.
