Here is what we've been up to!

Started the day off with a batch of pumpkin chocolate chip pancakes! And, then ate the leftovers for the next three mornings. Yum.

We attempted a little rock magnet project that totally failed and not only that but took two days to fail. I feel like we can eventually work out the kinks but I just tossed the supplies in a bag until motivation hits me.

The cooler temperatures moved in! When we woke up I was just so excited to sit outside on the porch and enjoy the chill in the air. It almost gave me enough energy to make cinnamon rolls. Almost. For some reason my grocery doesn't have the cream cheese frosting type cinnamon rolls in a can anymore, so I'm not sure what is with that sadness. But, even the nice weather couldn't talk me into making some from scratch. Instead Aria, the bump, and I sat on the porch and enjoyed our little cool front.

Our first costumed event of the season! Aria decided that she wanted to be a rain cloud this year. I was scrolling through facebook many weeks ago and there was a link to this rain cloud costume. Aria saw it and there was no turning back. Her previous choice was a cat, but the rain cloud won her over and she never wavered from her decision.

So, we took our little rain cloud trick or treating at our downtown area. There was also a corvette show going on, which made it a bit more fun but also more crowded with people sitting in chairs behind their corvettes. Our little cool front was no match for the sunshine and after about two thirds of the way through the path Aria was tuckered out. I guess a rain cloud on the head tends to heat a person up. But, she got a jolly rancher lolly pop so she was set. She was also stopped by every other person admiring her costume. People even asked to take her picture. I guess be unique at your own peril.

And, I'm hoping you noticed dad dressed up like a unicorn. Aria picked his look this year =)

We got up bright and early for our second year attending the Partin Ranch Corn Maze! We loved this event last year and it was one of the things I really wanted to do again this year. So, we decided to make the most of the cool front and head outdoors. If only that pesky sunshine didn't kill the nice temperatures. We still had a blast yet again and I took too many pictures that I'm going to have to pop a few in a separate post soon. I tried to narrow it down a few times, but I just couldn't do it. The cows were friendly and Aria even got to zipline, so keep an eye out for that.

The last morning of somewhat chilly temperatures called for a hot cocoa. I'm looking forward to the next cool front.

I usually make a long list of countdown ideas for this month and then pick a few things when the time gets closer. One of those ideas was making a cardboard pumpkin bag toss game, but decided the materials were not so budget friendly. Then I saw this ready made pumpkin bean bag toss game at Target for five bucks. You can't go wrong. Aria and I played it until the sunshine got too hot and then when daddy got home we busted it out again until the mosquitoes chased us inside. Well worth the price for something we can store until next Halloween as well.

Our purple playdough we made earlier in the month got tucked away out of sight out of mind in the aftermath of the hurricane and then cleaning for Canadian Thanksgiving. When I finally remembered to pull it back out it had grown mold. Aria was bummed, so we made a new batch. Orange this time. Totally worth the extra effort because she has played with this stuff for hours each day. She makes sweet potato casserole with it...over and over and over and over.

[Countdown to Halloween - 31 Days of Fall Fun Link Up Party] - Recap #4
By the end of the day I have a negative store of energy so dinners have been mostly fend for yourself. But, I finally had a bit of motivation and I wanted to try a new stew recipe. (It's The Pioneer Woman's recipe, naturally. But, the dumplings are my addition.) It's so yummy that I've had it for three meals over the past two days.

[Countdown to Halloween - 31 Days of Fall Fun Link Up Party] - Recap #4
Aria and I spent the morning making some chocolate pumpkin bread. I almost had it for dinner instead of the stew, but went with the heartier option in the end...with a piece of pumpkin bread as an appetizer.

I think this is Aria's fourth year painting a paint resist pumpkin face pumpkin (that's a mouthful). It's a tradition I can't pass up! We got our baby pumpkins from the parking lot pumpkin patch earlier this month, but decided to grab the bigger ones from the grocery. Cheaper! Aria and dad picked up a couple while I was finishing the dumplings for the stew the night before. Aria actually understood that she was painting around the tape to create a face this year, so that was fun.

And, we ended the night with another tradition - the glow stick bath! Usually we get in a few in October, but we weren't having any luck remembering to wait until the sun started to set to get in the bath. Finally managed to get one in, and Aria could play in the bathtub for two hours or more if I let her. My patience usually wanes around the hour mark. But, needless to say she loved her glow stick bath again this year.

Halloween is less than a week away now! Time flies. I love having all sorts of fall fun this month, but it is definitely a lot more challenging to do while pregnant. But, I think we can finish the month strong! And then nap the rest of November. So, how have you been enjoying your month? Please share below, both big and small celebrations are welcome! Don't forget you can also join in on the fun on instagram with #cdtohalloween16 as well. And, mark your calendars - the final link-up is on November 2nd!

34 Weeks and 4 Days (Baby #2)

pregnancy, bump, hump day bump day

How far along - 34 weeks and 4 days, due November 30th. Technically I was 34 weeks and 4 days yesterday, Sunday. I had Aria at 34 weeks and 4 days, so I thought I would take this week's bump picture on the same day. Now I am further along than I've ever been!

Gender - A little gentleman.

Cravings - Nothing.

Aversions - Nothing precisely, but nothing sounds appealing either.

Best moment - Hitting the 34 weeks and 4 days milestone! I was a bit nervous all that day.

Looking forward to - The last week or so of October. A lot of festive things planned! I'm excited about it but already tired thinking about it at the same time.

Miss anything - Not having heartburn. It's been even more miserable lately. I finally ordered some papaya enzymes based on Laura's recommendation. Fingers crossed.

Movement - If only he would stop using my bladder as a punching bag.

Other pregnancy symptoms - Other than the heartburn (which is plenty...), mostly just uncomfortable. Slow and tired. 5ish more weeks of this sounds like a lifetime.

Aria's thoughts - I must be looking huge lately because Aria keeps putting her hands on my tummy and saying things like "oh my gosh my baby brother is so big, look at how big your belly is!".

Sweet Turtle Soup

Here is what we've been up to!

Sweet Turtle Soup: [Countdown to Halloween - 31 Days of Fall Fun Link Up Party]
I found these mini pumpkins at Target during a $10 at Target haul a few months back, but I wasn't sure what I was going to do with them. I decided to hide them on the back porch with coins in each of them and one with an actual candy...it was morning so I didn't think more than one candy was a great idea. Aria is a coin hoarder so it worked well. She wanted me to hide them again but I gave her all the coins in my purse already and we couldn't come up with anything else to put inside.

We actually reused them for party favors for our postponed Canadian Thanksgiving party. They were just big enough for a tiny candy and a few trinkets - glow stick, spider popper, and a party noisemaker. Aria was super excited to fill them and give them to our guests. I'll be super excited when she misplaces or forgets about those awful noisemakers.

We also made slow cooker pumpkin french toast! We tried to make this before Hurricane Matthew hit but apparently when a hurricane is looming people stock up on Hawaiian rolls? There wasn't a single pack anywhere. We finally got our hands on some though! And, oh my gosh so good. I'm not sure how this would work for an actual breakfast meal because it took 4 hours or so in the slow cooker, and I definitely wouldn't be getting out of bed 4 hours before breakfast to prep this. Instead we had it for dinner. Always a good idea to fill up the three year old with sugary things before bedtime, yes?

Aria found this cute little Halloween bracelet kit in her pumpkin pail this morning. I could barely get her to eat half a piece of toast before she made herself a bracelet. I have a rule. It's called 'mom needs to eat breakfast before we craft'. Especially enforced while pregnant. But, anyway...she did a great job stringing the beads and has been wearing her bracelet almost daily since then!

I like to put some baby pumpkins on our windowsill for fall. So, after swim lessons we hit up the pumpkin patch parking lot. They are right next to each other, as is Total Wine where we stocked up on pumpkin beer, cider, and chocolate vodka for our Canadian Thanksgiving party right before the pumpkins. Aria was so excited to pick out pumpkins that she sprinted around the pallets of baby pumpkins grabbing as many as she could. I've never seen her so excited about pumpkins before. She picked out her favorite and when it started to sprinkle right while we were paying she tucked it underneath her dress so it wouldn't get wet.

Sweet Turtle Soup: [Countdown to Halloween - 31 Days of Fall Fun Link Up Party]
In past years I've kept the day before our Canadian Thanksgiving party free from countdown type activities. We use the day to prep. This year I needed two days. It wasn't planned that way but I couldn't find a spare moment to do anything else. And, then I was so tired by the time all the food was ready for the party that I didn't remember to take any pictures except this one shot of the food. I made myself and Aria a plate and then sat on the couch the rest of the time. Everything seems to take twice as long and is three times as tiring when you are nearing 8 months pregnant.

It was a delicious Canadian Thanksgiving party though! We had turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, broccoli cheese casserole, macaroni and cheese, cranberry sauce, crab dip, deviled eggs, apples with caramel sauce, honey rolls, and Hawaiian rolls. And, for dessert caramel apple cheesecake and pumpkin pie. Leftovers while nearing 8 months pregnant are never a bad thing!

When we picked out a white pumpkin from the pumpkin patch I told Aria I had a craft planned with it. She would not stop bugging me about it, but she thought we were going to carve it even after I told her we were not at least 4,000 times. So, we finally had time to do a little crayon melting. After I saw Liz do some crayon melting I just had to try it too. We peeled crayons, glued a whole bunch on top of our pumpkin, and then melted them with a hair dryer for what felt like the next hour. Aria kept trading me back the hair dryer because her arm would get tired. And, when the crayons started to melt the air blew melted wax all over the place. I didn't realize it would be quite so messy. I had to add a few pieces of parchment paper but there is still wax on the floor and tablecloth. If only somebody would come do some laundry and wipe my floors. But, the end result is so fun! It's such a pretty pumpkin to have sitting in the living room.

Aria is, however, still counting down the days until she can actually carve a pumpkin.

We picked up this haunted house foam kit from Michaels the other day and I was so excited to get to work on it. Last year we made a skeleton treehouse version. It is definitely a bit advanced for Aria but she helped put on the stickers and made up little stories with the foam vampire while I constructed the harder bits. I'm not sure it will actually survive the remainder of the month because she has a lot of fun playing with the little vampire on it, but that's fine with me. She is, however, a bit put out that the vampire can't actually get inside his own home.

With Hurricane Matthew putting our festivities on hold and then having to postpone the Canadian Thanksgiving party we've had to put off a few of the fall fests we like to attend. So, now that both are past I'm hoping we can get to one or two this weekend. Although, Aria still needs a Halloween costume...good thing she picked something relatively easy to DIY! Fingers crossed it turns out how I picture it in my head.
