Here is how we have been celebrating - not as much as I had planned since Hurricane Matthew popped over for a visit and then left us without power for three days! Without air conditioning Halloween fun definitely gets swept to the side, but we squeezed in a few things.
I finally remembered to take a picture of Aria discovering her pumpkin bucket goodies in the morning. Today she got Pinkalicious Pink or Treat, which ironically enough is about a big storm that knocks out her town's power right before Halloween. What are the odds? As well as a packet of Halloween grow capsules.
And, she could hardly wait two seconds to bust out the grow capsules. I have no idea why she loves these things so much. She doesn't even play with them. She 'grows' them, dries them off, and then puts them in a little box along with all the other ones she has.
These are from another Target craft kit I saved from last Halloween. They have a little fluff inside and you sew them up before adding the stickers. Aria did a great job sewing them up by herself. And now they are hanging up around the living room!
We were all boarded up for the hurricane due to hit later in the evening, but that didn't stop us from making biscuits and grave-y. Aria actually woke up and asked if we could make pumpkin pie. I suggested a more breakfast appropriate recipe though, and she went with biscuits and grave-y. It is one of the few recipes that Aria actually likes. She always prefers food that is in a unit all on its own - such as just peas, or just plain noodles, or just apple slices instead of cottage pie with peas, or spaghetti with red sauce, or apple pie.
We also watched Hocus Pocus, and Aria loved it! She picked it three days in a row. We had a generator that powered the refrigerator, the tv, a light, a fan, and a few other things. It just couldn't power the air conditioning unfortunately. So we could watch the news and a movie or two while the power was out. Most of the time we tried to get out of the house and find places that had air conditioning though.
Still without power. I promised Aria a popsicle for breakfast if the power hadn't gotten restored during the night. It didn't, sadly. But, it was a popsicle on her new Halloween plate that showed up in (technically balanced on top of) the pumpkin bucket one morning - not during the hurricane though because pumpkin magic does not work without air conditioning. It made me feel so sad that she had to sleep in her hot little room. She runs hot while she sleeps just like mom and dad, it was a miserable few nights.
The power was restored right around dinner time on this day. Much rejoicing took place!
Aria was finally able to wear her long Halloween pjs again! And, it was the coolest night since last spring so it was also a pleasant morning. We tried to make pumpkin pancakes for breakfast but the milk didn't survive the power outage and generator turning on and off for three days. We ended up having a perfectly lazy day (minus all the loads of laundry) enjoying our air conditioning watching Monsters University instead, and then ran to the store for milk.
Aria found a whole bunch of window gel clings in her pumpkin bucket this morning so she decorated her window and the front door.
I remembered I had some Halloween bingo cards stored in my craft box from..I think...three Halloweens ago. Again, Target. Aria and I played a few rounds with candy corn markers!
Aria got a little Halloween mani/pedi.
And, we played pin the spider on the web over and over and over. Contact paper and double sided tape on the spiders! Aria was very concerned about having her eyes covered at first but then loved it.
I could definitely have done without the hurricane in the middle of my favorite month, but it could have been worse. There could have been some real damage instead of no power and tree bits all over the yard. The last time we were without power because of a hurricane we didn't have power for 11 days. So, 3 days was just a little blip compared to that but we were also one of the very last in our county to get power restored. That was frustrating a time or two especially come evening. Annoying, yes. But not devastating like some of our neighbors to the north and south. We were pretty lucky.
I hope your celebrating wasn't been dampened by the hurricane. If you've been up to anything big or small, fun and festive for fall/Halloween please link up below. Don't forget you can also join in on the fun on instagram with #cdtohalloween16 as well. And, mark your calendars - the next link-up is on October 19th!
