[Cheers to Five Years] Disney Trip #24, day 1 - Hollywood Studios, Sunday Brunch, Pop Century, and Garden Grill

April 10th -

I'm excited to share with you the details from our latest Disney trip! With our annual passes expiring on the 12th we wanted to soak up a few more days of magic. So, we decided to lump my Birthday and our 5th Wedding Anniversary into a 3 day trip to celebrate.

We woke up a tiny bit early, but not too early (my request - those 5am wake up calls are rough), and hit the road for Hollywood Studios. Chris wanted to check out the Star Wars Launch Bay and I wanted to collect my fourth and final 'you are here' mug. Aria's new favorite thing is looking through the gift shops, honestly she gets so excited and just has to go inside. So, while Aria and Chris walked around the gift shop I headed for Starbucks to get my mug and a coffee. When I walked back out I saw that Aria was the proud mama to a baby Pegasus - one of those that comes wrapped in a blanket. Just can't resist that little face sometimes.

We continued on our way to the Launch Bay. Aria saw the Storm Troopers that walk around outside the building and immediately wanted nothing to do with the whole area. So we crossed the meet and greets off of our list. I believe you could meet Chewbacca or Kylo Ren. She may have tolerated Chewy but I'm pretty sure Kylo Ren would have scarred her for life. We walked around inside instead. Chris watched the little documentary video they have playing, but Aria and I skipped it. They have props and pictures and any number of things for sale. I like Star Wars, but it was only mildly interesting.  Chris really enjoyed it though.

We came, we saw, and then it was time for lunch.

The plan was to hit up Earl of Sandwich at Disney Springs for lunch before unloading our stuff at our resort for this trip, Disney's Pop Century Resort! Instead of Earl though we noticed the Sunday Brunch for Raglan Road and decided to try that instead. Raglan Road is one of our favorite places to eat on Disney property, and we've probably dined there more than anywhere else. However, we hadn't been for the Sunday Brunch before so we couldn't resist. It is an Irish Pub complete with live music and Irish dancers. Good food, fun atmosphere, delicious Bailey's shakes.

They started us off we complimentary smoothie samples, which Aria chugged. Chris got The Irish Breakfast I believe, with a little bit of everything and he loved it. Aria got a fruit bowl and french fries. I got fish and chips and the Bailey's shake of course. We left full. And, Aria even almost went up on stage - she got stage fright at the last minute and sprinted around the restaurant until Chris caught her.

From Disney Springs to Pop Century. We'd checked in online so we already had our room number ready to go. We were in the 70s building. We found our room and unpacked our things before hitting up the playground for a bit until we needed to catch a bus to Epcot for dinner.

We had time before our reservations so we made our way over to the Nemo ride and then checked out the tanks. Aria found a book she wanted to read in the gift shop too. We moved on to the Land pavilion for one of our favorites, Living with the Land. And then it was time for dinner.

One of Chris's goals was to eat a lot of food and in particular at food places we hadn't tried before. So we made a last minute reservation to the Garden Grill. It's a slowly rotating restaurant that serves a set meal family style with visits from Chip & Dale, Mickey, and Pluto. It also overlooks part of the Living with the Land boat ride, our favorite was the farm house with the dog barking. We ate rolls, salad, turkey, beef, green beans, sweet potato fries, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. The food was good, not great...but really I was still full from lunch. Aria, however, was running on an early morning, a busy day, and no nap. She was over-tired and over-excited when the characters came to the table. Bear hugs and the inability to leave noses/ears/tongues alone and manic giggles. oy. I'm sure the characters were delighted. We all survived and Aria didn't end up bowling anybody off their feet with her hugs, so it was mostly a win.

After dinner we rode Figment and Aria ran around like a wild child in the ImageWorks (the interactive play area following the Figment ride). Then she ran around like a wild child at the Music Garden Melodies Play Ground (which is part of the Flower & Garden Festival), and tried her hardest to climb up the rope jungle gym that was just a bit beyond her capabilities yet. But, she did finally score a spot on the spinning thing while the big kids all took turns spinning it around and around. I wasn't sure if she would ever get off. We finally enticed her away with the boat ride in Mexico, the Gran Fiesta Tour featuring Donald Duck, Panchito, and Jose. After that it was dark, so we made our exit back to the buses and back to our room where we all crashed.

  4. So excited to read about your trip! I still need to finish my recaps. Reese got one of those baby characters too- I bought her a baby Simba our first day at MK and she sleeps with it every night. Garden Grill is on my list for next time- I like that the food comes to you :) I heard that their breakfast is pretty good too.

    1. Just finished the video and had to add some more comments :) I didn't realize they put the Launch Bay in the old Animation building- I thought it was over by Star Tours. I like when Chris almost had the stroller run into a car on your way out, haha! That outdoor Twister they have at Pop is a cool touch. Never stayed at that resort but I heard a lot of people love it. How were the crowds when you were there? They didn't look too bad in the video, but I couldn't tell.

  18. An excellent start to your trip! Those baby Pegasuses are so cute. I find them hard to resist as an adult, so I can only imagine how exciting that was for Aria. Those fries at the pub looked amazing. Like now I need some steak fries stat. I like Chris's mindset - the more food the better.

  19. Sounds like a great start to your trip! I love that since you have annual passes, you can do things like try out different restaurants and such. Usually when you go, you go for a day or two and always have to hit up the top spots. And while those are fun, it's nice to go to some other unknown places too!
