[Aria's Disney Birthday Trip] Disney Trip #19, Day 1 - Wilderness Lodge, and Anna & Elsa at Magic Kingdom

Sweet Turtle Soup: [Aria's Disney Birthday Trip] Disney Trip #19, Day 1 - Wilderness Lodge, and Anna & Elsa at Magic Kingdom
For Aria's 3rd Birthday this year she wanted to go to Disney instead of having a big party. So we planned on taking her to Magic Kingdom on her Birthday. Then we thought it would be fun to stay the night on property along with going to Magic Kingdom. And, eventually we decided maybe two or three nights would be more fun. We debated the merits of more nights at a lower priced resort, less nights at a deluxe resort, and we thought about going even longer on a Disney camping trip. Finally we decided to splurge on two nights at Disney's Wilderness Lodge. It's one of the few resorts that has a giant Christmas tree, and it is just across the water from Magic Kingdom. Both big plusses in our book.

On Monday, November 30th we got up bright and early to head to our home for the next couple of days. The plan was to check in before using the boat to go over to the Magic Kingdom. We were pleasantly surprised to find that a room was already ready for us. So we went back to the car (and by we I mean Chris) to grab all of our luggage and bring it back to the room. We also checked out the beautiful lobby with a stream and huge windows and many many Christmas trees including the giant one. It was love at first sight.

After dropping off our luggage and taking a minute to jump on the bed we slowly made our way to the boat dock for a trip across the lake to Magic Kingdom.

We did the Treehouse, the Magic Carpets, and the Jingle Cruise before breaking for brunch at Sleepy Hallow home of the best waffles. Aria didn't like the nutella (what???) so she and Chris split a turkey leg as we walked through Fantasyland.

Next up was Barnstormer and then the longest line we've ever been in for Dumbo. I've mentioned before that Dumbo has a play set built into the line, but usually it is an optional thing. Today you had to actually stop and wait there. Aria loves the play set so she wanted to anyway, but because everybody else had to as well it was really crowded.

After Dumbo we made our way over to visit the much anticipated Princess Fairytale Hall to see Anna and Elsa. Because our trips to Disney are almost always last minute we've never been able to get a fastpass to Anna and Elsa. Until this trip. I'm not even sure how we ended up so lucky but I needed to bump a fastpass time earlier and noticed there was one available for Anna and Elsa. I snatched it up so fast, I was thrilled. Aria was so excited. Neither Anna nor Elsa could get her to talk to them (just like every other Princess she has met) but I know she loved meeting them both. If you watch the video Elsa asks her if she likes the beach or winter better and Aria just giggles in response. Excellent social skills this one.

Because there was no flexibility in our fastpass to see Anna and Elsa I was nervous the whole afternoon that Aria would fall asleep. She was up at 5something that morning and I could see her drooping as our fastpass time got closer and closer. So almost as soon as I put her in her stroller after meeting her favorite Frozen duo she was out cold. We made our way back to the boats to sail over to our resort while she snoozed. There was also a pit stop to grab an iced coffee because you really just can't beat Starbucks and Disney magic.

Practically the minute we walked into our room Aria woke back up. I had such high hopes of flopping on a bed for just a few minutes, and maybe even just a quick nap. But, alas no such luck. Instead Aria and I unpacked our luggage and then set up a little Christmas cheer in the form of a mini tree complete with a single ornament Aria picked out because it looked like a beehive. Best idea ever by the way. Not only was it festive but also a great nightlight. But, I think Aria's most favorite part of the room was that it came with a Bible. She asked me no less than 200 times if she could bring it home and she read stories to us from it every day. Did you know that there is a genie story in the Bible? I must have missed that lesson in school.

On the way to the boat dock that morning Aria saw the pool. She really wanted to just skip Magic Kingdom and spend the day there, but it does actually get cool in the mornings on occasion so she had to wait until the warm afternoon. So off to the pool we went. Everybody had a good time. There weren't a lot of other people there and the kid section was excellent fun. I snapped some pictures and video before hopping in myself. We splished and splashed until it got too chilly with the setting sun and Aria was hungry hungry.

We shivered back to our room and got dressed again before heading off to Disney Springs for dinner at Raglan Road, one of our favorites. Although we missed the parking garage and ended up walking 400 miles from our car to the restaurant. Give or take a few miles. I will be so glad when they finish the construction there, such a pain in the rear.

On the way back to the car Aria and Chris rode the train and we took a blurry picture in front of the Christmas tree.

Aria fell asleep on the way back to Wilderness Lodge, but silly me forgot to bring a diaper with us so I had to wake her up when we got back so I could change her. Naturally she was wide awake after that. We read some stories and turned out the lights and eventually little miss went to sleep. Unfortunately she also was up for 2-3 hours in the middle of the night because super comfortable resort beds with amazing pillows that we contemplated "accidentally" sticking in our luggage are no fun to sleep on at all.

  2. I'm seriously SO jealous of your trip!!! You're taking me back to the days when we used to vista my grandparents in Florida over Christmas and would go to DisneyWorld! I LOVE that tree in the Wilderness Lodge and we actually stayed at the one here when I was a teenager on a first trip to Disneyland. It's a great resort and worth the splurge! Also, I LOVE LOVE LOVE that mini tree she brought complete with the bee hive ornament and then star on top. Girl has good taste... minus not liking nutella. Oh well, more for mom :)

Was the mini one part of the room, or did you guys bring that with you? Love how starstruck Aria was with Anna and Elsa. So sweet.
