Five on Friday: St. Patrick's Day Inspiration

THE GOOD LIFE BLOG
Linking up with the good life blog, Carolina Charm, A. Liz Adventures, and Hello! Happiness today to share all sorts of St. Patrick's Day ideas. I think it is an often overlooked holiday when you have kids. But, I don't need much of an excuse to bring a little festive to my days with Aria. So, I have been gathering up ideas for a sham-rocking good time next month. Hopefully one or a couple of these will inspire some fun in your home too.

Eats & Treats:
[ 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 ]
Everybody can get excited about festive food! We all have to eat, so why not try out an Irish recipe. Do those cupcakes look incredible, or what?

Kid-friendly Crafts:
[ 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 ]
It just isn't a holiday at our home unless there is a canvas art project in the works. When in doubt finger paint it out...people say that, right?

DIY Decorations:
[ 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 ]
#1 link takes you to a different project than shown. When I went to link the picture the pin didn't have a link, how does that even happen? But, the link I did find is even better in my opinion - very similar to the heart frame project floating around for Valentine's day. My favourite is always a banner though, or a wreath. I was mostly underwhelmed with the St. Patrick wreath ideas I saw though. (Meaning you will probably see a green banner hanging around my home in the coming weeks)

Give-ables:
[ 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 ]
Fun ideas to give to friends, neighbors, classmates, etc.

 Children's Books:
[ 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 ]
And, last but not least my favourite purchase for any holiday. I love adding books to Aria's library. I don't personally own any of these, but I found them from recommendations around the web. I did, however, order 'The Naughty Leprechaun Story' after seeing it on Dixie Delights. I was smitten with the idea, especially because I think elf on the shelf is too much work and this one is just a few days long. - totally doable. I think Aria will get a kick out of it when she is a wee bit older too.

It's the Little Things :: 5

I'm linking up again with Ashley at Words About Waverly and Jess at Sadie Sky Boutique for their 'little things' link-up, which means time for a new Aria video! My favourite time of the day, or at least one of them, is right after nap time when Aria and I go out back for a little milk drinking. I snap on a bib and hand her a sippy of milk, and then she walks over to the door and holds up her hand so I can help her walk over the little step. After that she is off like a toddler shot, walking around the porch, going up and down the step, watching airplanes or birds, and drinking her milk. All while I sit in a porch chair on the shady side of the porch just watching her. I love it because for one I get to sit and for two she is so happy and animated that it is fun to watch. Since this is a daily thing, I have quite a few little snippets of her cute self for today's video. Check it out.

Historical-ness: Our Last Months Before We Got Married

The next up chronologically for my 'historical-ness' series is the months between the summer of 2010 and when we got married in April of 2011. And, I only feel compelled to post about it because it would make me twitchy to skip a section. I'm sorry we were such a yawn-fest before Aria, I don't know how we didn't bore ourselves into hibernation. At the time it didn't seem so empty though, but looking back makes me love how Aria fills up all our moments now. Did I talk you into reading the rest of this post or what?! Don't worry it is short.

In October, we had our annual Canadian Thanksgiving party. That is the year we really went all out. We had all sorts of appetizers, every Thanksgiving dish we could think of and 3 or 4 pies. We also had a whole selection of seasonal beer and some sort of cinnamon apple drink made with Goldschl├Ąger, apple pucker, and pineapple juice that was a little too delicious. Definitely my favourite event of Fall. I wasn't so picture happy as I am now, I literally have this picture and one of the appetizers.

We took Christmas pictures, timer-style ones. The dogs were always so cooperative.

We had an annual pass to the zoo, so we went for visits pretty often. This is us on the little train ride they have.

And, we spent many a morning at the beach. Also afternoons and evenings, but mornings are the best. You'd think we would have been less pale, but no.

I hope I didn't overwhelm you with those exciting times... It was even a little challenging to find 4 pictures over the course of 9 months. My how the times have changed.

Weekend Highlights - Fireworks, Wet Toes, and Ducks

This weekend was one of the best I've had in a while. I really couldn't put my finger on exactly why, but it felt relaxing. Most weekends we try to jam in as much as we can while dad is around. The thing is we still did our go-go routine this time. So, I don't know why it felt so easy going but I'll take it.

On Saturday Chris and I left Aria with her great grandma so that we could have a baby free evening at Disney. We did a belated Valentine's dinner at Disney's Polynesian Resort's Kona Cafe.
We started with sushi and sashimi. I got the vegetarian roll while Chris got three types of sashimi. Both were delicious. And, for dinner I got sticky wings and pot stickers while Chris got grilled curried-crusted lamb chops. The sticky wings were awesome but the pot stickers were friggin amazing. Chris said his lamb tied for first with the lamb they use to serve at the District Chophouse in DC. All around yummy in the tummy.
After stuffing ourselves silly, we walked down to the beach to watch the fireworks across the water at Magic Kingdom. We sat in the sand that turned out to be damp, so our tushes ended up getting wet - nothing like an hour and a half car ride home with soggy underwear.
When the first firework went off all of a sudden the whole beach of people realized that the sky was really rather cloudy. You couldn't actually see the firework, but it lit up the clouds beautifully. The clouds either shifted or the fireworks started going off from a different location because we could see the bottom half of the fireworks after the first minute. But, the explosion of colours that reflected off the water and clouds were even better than a clear sky.

On Sunday we went out for a pajama breakfast at Bob Evan's. Technically only Aria was in her pajamas.
Then we spent the rest of the morning at Aria's Godfather Kiel's house. She ran around the yard and got puppy love, took a breather inside to cool off with the rest of her breakfast smoothie, and then back out for bunny snuggles and pool toe dipping. Delilah got in on the pool fun, but Obi wasn't falling for it. Aria wore herself plumb out so we went home for a nap.
After Aria's nap we went to the pond with a sippy of milk and a bag full of bread to feed the ducks, ibis, storks, and crazy seagulls (mine, mine, mine).
And, we ended our weekend with grocery shopping and soup (and laundry). I, for one, vote for a repeat next weekend!

Sweet Sunday

February 16th - 22nd
All of our simply sweet moments from the past week.

Aria loves her new tropicleania set, she gets the house extra clean now.

She can't get enough of her yard strolls with dad these days.

I made smothered Italian chicken for dinner. It was looking a little iffy towards plating time, but it was much tastier than it appeared!

Keeping an eye on Baxter, who is apt to wander off to other yards when he thinks he can get away with it.

In the zone rocking out with her snack.

Sitting on mama's lap drinking a little afternoon milk and watching the birds play.

Aria had precisely 1.5 gummie worms from her Valentine. I'm not entirely sure if she enjoyed them or not.

Homemade sippy cup. If anybody has any sippy cups that work with smoothies tell me, tell me!

Flowers brightening up the living room, surprisingly Aria has left them alone.

Have a sweet Sunday!
