Oh Hey, It's Five on Friday: Aria's Favourite Toys from Last Christmas

With Aria's 2nd Birthday coming up, along with Christmas I've been thinking about toys. What she might like this year, plus what she has outgrown from last year that we can donate/get rid of. I thought it might be helpful for readers with younger kids to know what Aria's enjoyed from last December until now. We all want to find those toys that are loved and aren't tossed aside after a few weeks...and these are the ones Aria has gotten a ton of use from!

Oh Hey, It's Five on Friday: Aria's Favourite Toys from Last Christmas
Step2 Pink Push Car - I'd say hands down this has gotten the most use. It lived in the house for a few months after she got it for her 1st Birthday, and we did many loops around the house. When it warmed up it moved out to the garage and we did even more loops around the backyard and to the park. It has been well worth the money, and is one of those sure fire ways to cure toddler boredom and stop tantrums in their tracks. Do you want to go on a pink car ride....? Instantly ready to go.

Poppin' Piano - This one surprised me with it's longevity, and she even prefers it over her B Toys cat piano or dog guitar. I'm forever hearing it sing colours or numbers. It was her favourite toy when she got it last Christmas, and while it isn't as popular as it once was she still plays with it every couple of days. One of the few toys I keep out constantly.

Pounding Bench - At first her love was only for the hammer. She could carry that sucker around all over, and hammer everything but the bench it came with. She grew into the bench a handful of months later, and she plays with it as much as she plays with the piano now. She also still tries to use it as a step stool. Another toy I keep out constantly.

Sensory Balls - We play with these balls daily. I think two of them are under the table as I type. They've been a hit since she unwrapped them. Rolling, tossing, kicking, sitting on, etc. Another workhorse toy, and you can't go wrong with balls for a toddler.

Mega Bloks - She's definitely grown with these blocks. At first she loved dumping them and then scattering them to the four winds. It was the first toy she learned to help put away. It was the bag she learned how to zip and unzip on. Before she enjoyed undoing the blocks and now she has a blast building things. I think if I had to pick a fave toy that Chris likes to play with it would be these blocks. I may cringe a little when she pulls the bag out (almost daily, usually multiple times a day), but she loves it.

And a few runners up...Little People Noah's Ark, See 'n Say, and Melissa and Doug puzzles.

Moms of 2/3 year olds, what toys have been the most loved? What should be on Aria's Christmas list this year?

  1. Aaahhh looking through your list kind has me missing the toddler toys. Funny thing is, I don't even remember what my kids played with at that age. Emily is always just wanting to play with her sisters stuff ;). I think somewhere between 2/3 my girls both really started enjoying their kitchens and we STILL will play with the blocks!

Oh I'm soooo excited for Christmas with Mia this year! It's gonna be so fun! Santa is bringing her a toddler golf set (like the cheapest one Santa could fine, HA!) and a kitchen! I'm hoping that keeps her busy while we are stuck in doors this winter!

  3. Yes we have many of the same toys. Blocks are always such a huge hit. I'm sad to say we are tending towards Legos now. I'm not ready. Too many pieces!!!

  11. Great idea recapping her favorite items! Around lily's 2nd birthday she really sparked an interest in pretend play and has since flourished. Lots of tea parties, dress up, ANYTHING princess related, baby doll and paraphenelia, kitchen/kitchen food/shopping cart. She is really into playing games too...Ants in the Pants, Don't Break The Ice, Hungry Hippos, Minnie Matching. Oh and she loves Littlest Pet Shops.

  12. Mason LOVES being outside. So balls are really fun to take to the park or he loves his water table (which I know is too cold for the winter). He also loves things with wheels and loves the VTech Go Go Smart Wheels Sets he has (and I got him the train set for Christmas). I think he might be getting a kitchen for Christmas from my SIL and I think he would love that. I'd say anything with pretend play!

  13. I love the picture of her in the fleece hooded outfit - so, so cute! I've been thinking and brainstorming toy ideas too. We have mega blocks and those are a big hit, along with Duplos. Yesterday, we built something with her mega blocks and Reese went around pushing it, saying 'I'm vaccuuming!'. Totally out of nowhere, but it was really cute. So now I'm thinking about getting her a toy vaccuum :) I want to get her a play kitchen at some point, but not sure if we'll do that this year or next. I'm thinking about getting her a little people playset of some sort too, like the farm or house. I think she'd like that. Along with books, puzzles, and a few Green Toys.

  14. We play with sensory balls (any ball, really) and mega blocks almost daily. We've also gotten a TON of use out of the tricycle. So many laps around the block because of the tricycle…

  15. Love the picture of Aria in the pink fleece onesie outfit. These are great toys! I wish we would have had one of those push cars when Mason was a tot. He would have loved that. Mason loved building blocks, too...but now I have to face the wrath of Legos. Haha!

  16. I am at a lost as to what we should get Connor this year. He has far too much already so I'm on the lookout for just a handful or so of gifts that will grow with him over the next year.
