Disney Trip #5 - Magic Kingdom on the Fourth

We did it! We took Aria to Magic Kingdom to see their 4th of July fireworks show! We decided to do a half day though, so that Aria could get in a solid nap and hopefully stay up late enough to catch the show. Spoiler: she successfully stayed up!

It was packed, which we knew going in. It took us 15 minutes to park because people couldn't figure out how to go from three lanes of traffic to one. And, then about an hour to make it from the parking lot to Magic Kingdom itself.

We walked in just as the Festival of Fantasy was going past. It was perfect timing, and Aria hadn't seen it yet. Chris popped her up on his shoulders and we stood at the very back of the tape. She doesn't look it in this picture but she got so excited when she recognized something - the elephants, the dragon, and Minnie and Mickey.

We left at noon and my estimated time of arrival was 2:30, instead of 3:30 so we missed our first two fastpass+ times and the app wasn't working so I couldn't reschedule them all, which angered me. We did make it to the third one though, which was Small World.

Aria asked for one more at the end! Sorry babe, maybe when the line isn't so long.

Since I couldn't make any more fastpasses+ and there was no way we were standing in 60 minute+ lines, we went on the only ride in the park that never has a long line. The Carrousel. Even the couple minute wait had Aria climbing on everything.

The enthusiasm overwhelms me. We couldn't find two horses together so I stood and did the camera thing, and then ended up dizzy as hell for like 30 minutes afterwards. Not doing that again!

I kind of slacked on photos this trip, but there really wasn't any room to take them. I couldn't get far enough away. This was the only us-ie of the whole day.

When the lines are too long, head to the splash area!

The last time Aria was just finishing up a teething set and was super clingy, plus over tired from our 4 day Disney trip so she just stood there. This time she had much more fun and even got a few feet away from us, and I didn't have to hide!

This one is my favourite. She is sticking her tummy out so the water can hit it. She does this in the shower too.

After she changed back into her too cute for words star spangled romper, we went and got ice cream for dinner. It was worth the 40 minute line. If you are going to wait in a line..it should totally be an ice cream line. It was so delicious we devoured it before I remembered to take any pictures.

Then we had two hours to kill until the fireworks, and weren't sure what to do next. As we were walking back through frontierland we ran into a dance party! Aria watched and danced for a few minutes and then ran around in a large circle through the party, through the shop nearby, around the deck, and then back through the party. For a solid 45 minutes. She ran and got into things and danced in front of strangers and randomly gave people leaves off the ground until she literally couldn't put a foot in front of the other. I scooper her up after she just started falling over repeatedly. She tuckered herself out but really just wanted to keep going.

Right about that time we noticed that Country Bear Jamboree was starting in 2 minutes so we hot tailed it inside. There was hardly a person in there! It was the perfect length for Aria's attention span, plus after chasing her around frontierland for 45 minutes I was enjoying a seat. She particularly loved the talking animal heads on the wall.

We picked up a coin for our pressed penny collection, and I tried to point out the scratch marks on the floor that always amazed me as a kid but she didn't care.

On the way to find a spot for the fireworks we saw that Pirates of the Caribbean was a 10 minute wait, and we had 30 minutes until the show so we chanced it. It just isn't a trip to Magic Kingdom without a boat ride with Jack Sparrow.

And, then we tried to find a spot for the fireworks. ha. We headed toward the castle, but were redirected back the way we came. We then made a big loop to exactly where we started, so we just stopped at the entrance to adventureland and called it a spot. I actually liked it a lot because we could see the castle in the distance and I thought the tikis were a cute addition.

I'm going to post the rest of the pictures from the fireworks tomorrow and check off another item from our Summer Bucket list!

We started to head out of the park right at the end of the show, and it took us another hour to make it back to our car. But, we got to go behind Main Street because they were trying to speed the exit along so that was neat. I got yelled at for taking a picture, so no pictures. We saw a bunch of Main Street vehicles and a big hot air balloon thing!

This is a picture of Aria on the tram at 10:07 still wide awake and without a single I'm tired tantrum for the whole day. Our late night attempts in the past haven't been the most successful so I was very impressed with her pleasantness! She fell asleep as soon as she got buckled into her car seat and slept in until 8:30 for several days afterwards.

We were half expecting to have a miserable half day that ended in an awesome fireworks display, but the day turned out to be a lot of fun even with the wall to wall people. We can always do rides on another trip, so we just enjoyed ourselves with the few rides we could do, splash pads, ice cream, and dance parties.

I made another video from our trip, it includes a bonus fireworks show from the drive home!
Thanks for tagging along for our red, white and blue Disney trip!

  5. I can't imagine the crowds on July 4th, so I salute you on battling them. I'm REALLY impressed that Aria was able to stay up that late without any fussiness! I have yet to keep Reese up past about 8:30, so probably come vacation time, we'll have a few late nights. I only hope she fares as well as Aria :)

  11. I can't imagine doing disney on the 4th but you make it sound like the happiest place on earth! Good work! I love her romper and her playing the splash area - so fun! What a great way to spend the 4th. Well except for that silly fast pass not working. I mean seriously you have passes and those special wrist bands and you cant get on rides? what gives Disney!?

  12. Sounds like an amazing trip! The lines though... crazy!!! But I guess that's to be expected on a holiday. We LOVE the carousel here too and LOVE that it never has more than a 10 minute line! Toddlers and lines don't mix... unless there is ice cream at the end! YUM.
